VIA Global Health Presented with ‘Leadership and Innovation in Global Health’ Award from Rice 360° Institute for Global Health
VIA Global Health’s Noah Perin has accepted today the ‘Leadership and Innovation in Global Health’ award on behalf of VIA’s work to address the access challenges facing the health facilities globally. Noah was invited to keynote the event and participate as a judge in the 9th Annual Global Health Design Competition.
The award was presented by Yvette Mirabal, MPH, Executive Director Rice 360° Institute for Global Health at Rice University as she congratulated VIA Global Health. “We award this accolade each year to those who best exemplify our Institute’s dedication to maternal and neonatal health. You embody the qualities we want to see in our students as future global health innovators.”
During his keynote discussing the startup journey, Noah explained that the journey is never as clean cut as the case studies and publications make them out to be. He explained that VIA’s journey has been far from a straightforward path but has been shaped through a series of pivotal moments. Because of this, Noah challenged the student teams whom he was tasked to judge with a call to action, saying “I hope you all continue to pursue your ideas. The world really needs them.”
“I had been challenged and inspired by their ideas throughout the event, so I felt that I owed it to them to provide a challenge to keep their passion and motivation in order reshape healthcare globally,” noted Noah Perin following the event.
The Rice 360° Ninth Annual Undergraduate Global Health Technologies Design Competition was held on Friday, March 29, 2019, in the Bioscience Research Collaborative Auditorium at Rice University. The competition featured over 20 student teams from national and international universities who presented their low-cost global health technologies. Entries were judged on the quality of the problem definition, the effectiveness and potential impact of the design solution, and the likelihood that the solution can be successful in improving healthcare delivery in low-resource settings by faculty, clinicians, and private and public sector partners from around the country.
