ApneBoot is a pulse oximeter-based device that helps auto-resolve primary apneas. It uses a built-in pulse-oximeter to monitor oxygen saturation and pulse rate. In the event of apnea, indicated by bradycardia and/or hypoxia, it uses a stimulator that vibrates the foot sole of the infant, stimulating the nervous system to restart breathing.

Description

ApneBoot is a neonatal device that detects and corrects bradycardia and hypoxia which are key symptoms of neonatal apneas. It uses a built-in pulse oximeter to continuously monitor oxygen saturation and pulse rate. In the event of apnea, as indicated by bradycardia and/or hypoxia, it vibrates the foot sole of the newborn to stimulate the nervous system to restart breathing. The device also provides an audio-visual alarm to get the caretaker's attention to rapidly intervene before any injury can occur. The device operates on alternating current and also has a built-in battery to provide a power backup of up to 12 hours. It has been clinically proven that ApneBoot has 94% PPV in detecting bradycardia and/or hypoxia. It has 70% efficacy in auto-resolving primary apneas.

Key Features

Usability
The ApneBoot is intended for preterm infants born under 36 weeks when used with its foot stimulation feature. It may also be used for all infants up to one year of age as a standard pulse oximeter monitor without foot stimulation.

Design

Safety
The ApneBoot has an audio-visual alarm to alert in the event of bradycardia and/or hypoxia.

Display/Controls
The ApneBoot has a display size of 70mm x 40mm. Its display parameters are pulse rate and SpO₂. It also shows the number of bradycardia and hypoxia events in the last 12 hours. The settings for the SpO₂ and Pulse Rate threshold for alarm and stimulation are configurable.
